What Is a Gravity Score? How PartnerForge Helps Affiliates Find Winning Programs
What Is a Gravity Score?
A gravity score is a metric that shows how many unique affiliates have earned commissions from a program within a recent time window. Originally popularized by ClickBank, gravity is the most reliable signal of whether a product is actually converting for affiliates.
How Gravity Score Works on PartnerForge
Our gravity calculation uses a 12-week rolling window with recency weighting:
- Each unique affiliate who earned a commission in the past 12 weeks contributes to the score
- Recent conversions are weighted more heavily than older ones
- The score updates daily
A gravity score of 50 means roughly 50 unique affiliates earned commissions in the past 12 weeks.
Why Gravity Matters
For Affiliates
Gravity tells you what is actually selling. A product with beautiful landing pages but a gravity of 2 is not converting for affiliates. A product with a gravity of 80 has proven demand.
For Merchants
High gravity makes your program more attractive in the marketplace. It creates a virtuous cycle: more affiliates promote → more sales → higher gravity → more affiliates discover you.
How to Interpret Gravity Scores
- 0-10: New or low-performing program. High risk, but potentially high reward if you are an early mover.
- 10-30: Established program with moderate affiliate activity. Good balance of opportunity and proof.
- 30-60: Strong program. Many affiliates are earning. Competition among affiliates is moderate.
- 60+: Very competitive. Lots of affiliates promoting. Harder to stand out but proven to convert.
Tips for Using Gravity
For Affiliates
- Look for programs with gravity 15-40 (proven but not oversaturated)
- Check the commission rate alongside gravity (high gravity + low commission = poor ROI)
- Rising gravity indicates growing demand
For Merchants
- List your program on the marketplace immediately
- Activate early affiliates to build initial gravity
- Monitor your gravity trend weekly
